The Henry and Janet Claman Medical Humanities Collection

The Henry and Janet Claman Collection of the Health Sciences Library is a collection of books and videotapes concerning the humanism of medicine.  This collection supports the Arts in Medicine program at the University of Colorado, Anschutz Medical Campus and is designed to integrate learning in the arts (broadly interpreted) into the medical education experience.

These materials are located in the library's third floor Special Collections Room. The collection is cataloged and available through the Library's online catalog.

There is general agreement that Medicine (also broadly interpreted to include at least Nursing, Dentistry and Pharmacy) is a humanistic endeavor. Thus the arts provide avenues to increase humanistic values and practices. As the Health Sciences campus is not physically close to a liberal arts campus, the program will include invited speakers from outside the campus as well as some organized field trips to other sites. This program encourages collaboration between the University of Colorado campuses, links to the community, and exposure to different cultures through the arts.
