Treadmill Desks!     Tue, 2014-12-02

Need more treadmill desks!  They're occupied all the time!

Library Response

"Thank you for the comment. The Library has advertised the treadmill desks, a.k.a. walk stations, heavily since we got them. We too have noted their popularity and consistent usage throughout the day. The distance walked and many calories burned since installation are fun facts and impressive. Students use them and seem to like them. Our leadership team will count your vote for more and consider in our future space and library amenities planning.

Thank you so much.

Nap Pods     Mon, 2014-12-01

I know the library is getting new furniture. I would like to recommend Nap Pods as a way to increase study productivity and traffic in the library

Library Response

Thank you for your comment. The idea and interest in sleeping options in the library is not new. A few student users over the past several years have suggested the same, and internal library discussion about future amenities has touched on the option of sleeping pods, nap stations and the like. We will certainly keep the discussion going, idea on the table, and consider engaging the student community about it. Issues such as cost and funding, appropriateness, conduct policy, use by whom, safety and proper location in the library facility would be some of the factors we would have to take into account. It certainly could be a cool and non-traditional option for our library to consider.

If you have specific models and types to suggest, please contact me anytime to share some links and/or photos of ones you might be familiar with and have seen at other libraries. I’d welcome your specific ideas and I am glad to bring them to future library planning discussions. Contact me anytime.

Thank you.

Just wanted to let someone know that I was up in the tower room on 3rd floor last night and the lights turned off around 10 pm and would not turn back on. Thanks!

We are aware of the issue of the lighting in the Tower Room and that we are currently looking into the problem, and hope to have it resolved soon.

Journal of Neurosurgery     Mon, 2014-11-10

I am one of the 6th year neurosurgery residents here and am doing my research year. I have noticed that there is no access to the 2014 Journal of Neurosurgery articles.  I spoke with one of the librarians about this issue and was informed that there is an embargo on the current year articles of this journal.  This is a huge problem for us because this is our most prestigious and most read neurosurgery journal. We need access to this journal for research and learning purposes. Can this be fixed

Thank you for your help in this matter.

Library Response

Thank you for contacting us regarding the Journal of Neurosurgery.  The library canceled the subscription to this journal back in 2012 due to low usage.  We will review this journal again for a possible subscription.  Meanwhile, if you need articles from recent issues, please consider our interlibrary loan service at:

Journal of the American Association of Endodontists     Sat, 2014-11-01

Hello, I'm ISP 1 at CU Denver SDM. I'm interested in endodontics. I just found out that the library does not have subscription to Journal of Endodontics, which is the official journal of the American Association of Endodontists. I think that it would be very useful for the students if the library subscribed to JOE, so they could have access to that journal. Thank you.

Hello Library Staff,

Would you consider adding electronic access to the Journal of Endodontics?  Our students at the School of Dental Medicine would like to use this Journal for research and the development of CATS. Thanks.

Library Response

Thank you for contacting the library with your recommendation for the Journal of Endodontics. I'm happy to report that we do have access to this title through ScienceDirect:

Please let me know if you have any questions.

You can find this title in our journals list on the library's website if you type in the name.

Printing directions     Thu, 2014-10-16

When I print the Directions page from the site, the social media icons print down the middle of the page overlapping the parking map.

Library Response

Thank you so much for reporting this issue.  Our web developer, Cathalina Fontenelle has worked on the problem and we believe it is now fixed!

New Publication     Mon, 2014-10-06

I would suggest the HSL and University of Colorado to consider becoming members of the BioMedCentral to facilitate publications of our researchers in an open access fashion. Thanks for considering.

Library Response

Thank you for contacting us regarding BioMedCentral membership.  The Health Sciences Library used to be an institutional member, but we ended our membership in 2012.  The CU System Libraries had a membership together and we all ended it because the benefits of the membership were not worth the costs.

The Health Sciences Library is now accepting applications for its Open Access Fund.  You can read more about it here:

Anals of Internal Medicine     Tue, 2014-09-02

The single user restriction for the Annals of Internal medicine is excessively restrictive and significantly compromises clinical decision making and research. This is a high impact journal and the library needs to increase the number of simultaneous users. If necessary this should be at the expense of a subscription to the numerous low impact low utilization journals included in current subscriptions.

Library Response

Thank you for contacting us regarding our subscription to the Annals of Internal Medicine.  We understand that this journal is important to our user communities, and will work with the publisher to expand our license so that more people can access the journal at the same time.

Prospector Broken Link     Thu, 2014-08-21

I searched on the Find It search bar for a book called "Extreme Cuisine" by Jerry Hopkins. When I click on the link "Prospector Union Catalog" to request it, the link sent me to the prospector page for "Oral Literature of the Kalenjin." I think that the prospector link is broken.

Library Response

Thank you very much for reporting the incorrect Find It link to Prospector catalog records.  If you need instruction or help with obtaining that book, please contact us at 303-724-2152 or stop by our service desk during hours and staff will help you order this book.

We reported the incorrect Prospector link problem to ProQuest, the company who hosts Find It.  We are continually working to improve Find It as a discovery tool, and please feel free to report any other problems or send us suggestions regarding this tool.  For future library questions, you can contact the service desk or submitting your question to AskUs, our virtual reference service.  AskUs can be reached either via online form at, or email to

Database suggestion     Tue, 2014-06-17

I like to use the ClinicalKey database when I'm working at the VA hospital. I
think having access to this database through the University would be great.
It is a very useful database that also has access to a number of textbooks.

Thank you!

Library Response

Thank you for recommending resources for the Health Sciences Library’s collection.  We rely on CU Denver faculty, staff, and students for suggestions regarding their information needs.  The database you suggested, ClinicalKey, will be considered as we review the resources we will receive in the coming year. We have other resources that provide clinical care information that you might find useful. This is a link to some of our top clinical tools:

Thank you again for your suggestion.
